Coding Education that Does More
A few months ago we started working on a side-project—DevWell—that would use profit derived from intermediate to advance subscription-based programming education to train individuals from displaced populations to code and then support them in finding remote work opportunities.
The idea was simple. DevWell would become another egghead.io, frontendmasters.com or pluralsight.com but with 100% of profit split between providing training for those struggling for opportunity and improving/expanding the library for paying subscribers.
Today, because of the impact of COVID-19, we’re temporarily pausing those plans and focusing on providing completely free live learning support, mentorship, and job placement assistance.
For beginners looking to level-up and start coding for the first time, we’ll be referring you to freecodecamp.org’s curriculum and then offering live sessions to help you get unstuck as well as conducting group mentorship sessions to help you progress closer to your specific goals.
For developers who’ve lost jobs—or feel they’re at risk of losing work—we’ll be aggregating open positions, offering live resume tear down and Q&A sessions.
We are also looking to partner with community-minded working programmers who are willing to offer their time over the coming months to do live workshops, record tutorials, or lead question and answer sessions on frontend or full-stack development (JavaScript ecosystem for now). If that’s you, get in contact at volunteer@devwell.org.
For those who would like to support but want a less active role, you can offer support on Patreon. Incoming revenue will be used to create and promote beginner, intermediate, and advanced learning and job placement content and resources.
